A Brief History:

A couple of book lovers, Mohini and Satish Khot, felt the need to meet others who also enjoy books, to share, to discuss, to analyse what they had read. They persuaded the Managing Committee of the U S Library to allow them to hold The Book Club meetings on the first floor. The first meeting of The Book Club was held on Monday 27th January 2003. Ever since then the evening of the last Monday of every month is reserved for The Book Club to congregate.

The last 12 years it has been a very interesting and enjoyable journey. Not only have books been discussed, but a number of authors have done readings of their newly published books. We also have our members read out their short stories and poems. We have also had story telling sessions. When Manneys decided to close down, The Book Club held a 'Wake', a farewell party, for it at Manney's premises. We also organised a birthday party for Shakespeare on 450th birthday with a quiz on his works and with recitations from his sonnets and plays. Recently, 'Hamlet' and 'Haider' were discussed and compared. The Book Club's activities have received a lot of attention from both the Press and TV channels.
